Remo Gardeschi was born in Moncioni (Arezzo) in 1920. After studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence under the guidance of Emanuele Cavalli, he devoted himself to painting and sculpture. His first exhibitions, in the late 1950s, were at a local level. In the early 1960s, he began a collaboration with the Piero Della Francesca Art Gallery in Arezzo, which would represent him throughout his life. His first exhibitions in Italy (Florence, Milan) were followed by collaborations with Swiss and US galleries, with a rarefied and never repetitive exhibition activity. An artist who combines the pictorial perfection and chromatic wisdom of centuries of Tuscan art, he places man in his paintings in a setting of metaphysical urban spaces, seascapes, and country landscapes dominated by the elegance and rhythm of brushstrokes and form. In his sculptures, works of rare expressive power, his favorite subject is always the human figure, represented in plastic poses, sometimes pushing the boundaries of abstraction. Gardeschi, a thoughtful, sensitive, and reserved personality, continued to work in his studio in Moncioni until his death in 1994. His works are present in international private collections such as the Rubinstein Collection (USA) and the Max Bollac Collection (Switzerland), as well as in museums and public places. A well-known sculpture competition is named after the master.
