Enrico Lombardi (Meldola, FC, 1958) has been active on the Italian and international art scene for over forty years, combining his exhibition activity with constant reflection on the status of the image. One of the leading exponents of New Italian Figuration, he is a complete artist and intellectual: painter, writer, musician, and curator of exhibitions by important contemporary artists. His career has been marked by participation in world-renowned exhibitions, including the Venice Biennale, and numerous museum exhibitions curated by leading critics. Trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna, he has participated in important group exhibitions such as the First Mediterranean Biennial in Barcelona, the Bologna Youth Biennial, the Campigna Prize, Sui Generis at the P.A.C. in Milan, and Urban Landscape at the Carrousel du Louvre in Paris. He has held numerous solo and anthological exhibitions in Italy and abroad, including at the Galleria Forni (Bologna and Milan), the Galleria Wimmer in Montpellier, the Art Bank Gallery in London, and museums in Forlì, Ravenna, Rimini, and Bagnacavallo. In 2004, he joined the Italian Factory group, participating in international exhibitions such as The New Italian Art Scene at the Taipei Museum and exhibitions at the Fondazione Borroni, the Arsenale in Turin, and the Fondazione Bandera. He was invited to the Venice Biennale (2011) and to historical exhibitions on Italian painting curated by Marco Goldin and Vittorio Sgarbi. Among his most significant solo exhibitions are: Il tempo dell’ombra (The Time of Shadow), La pazienza dell’ombra (The Patience of Shadow), Esercizi spirituali (Spiritual Exercises), Autoritratti del tempo (Self-Portraits of Time), and Acheropita. He collaborates with philosophers, poets, and critics (Rocco Ronchi, Carlo Sini, Marco Goldin, Chiara Canali) and is the author of theoretical writings and monographs. His works are displayed in Italian and foreign museums. The pictorial cycles of the 2010s—Esercizi Spirituali, The Kingdom, and Jazz—define the full maturity of his research, characterized by profound philosophical and meditative content.
